This year's German Ultimate Frisbee Unversity Championship took place on June 8–9, hosted by the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). This was the first year that a team from Hochschule Geisenheim University also took part.
Led by coach Tim Heinzel, fourteen students took to the field in Karlsruhe to represent Hochschule Geisenheim University.
On arriving in Karlsruhe and seeing the other teams preparing and training on the Friday evening, it was clear that the teams present were of a completely different league. However, the majority of teams also had serious coaches or clubs behind them.
We are very proud of our team, who refused to be intimidated.
Under these circumstances, the goal wasn't to win, but instead to take part and never leave a game without scoring some points, which our team achieved in all six games!
Congratulations!
Two teams were disqualified due to having too few women in their line-up. As a result, we came 16th out of 18 teams, despite having the fewest points by far. Nevertheless, our players gave 100% throughout, both on the pitch and when fielding the constant questions about where Geisenheim even is and why we have a team that was able to take part.
Our dedicated and scrappy Ultimate Frisbee players certainly made an impression and were favourably mentioned and duly celebrated at the award ceremony.
According to coach Tim Heinzel, it was an extraordinary experience for everyone in the team, and each player took away an incredible amount of experience from this weekend.
The University Sports Office has four mountain bikes available to rent. If you are interested in renting a mountain bike, please contact us via e-mail to arrange an appointment: hochschulsport(at)hs-gm.de
