Jon Hanf was born in Kiel. After graduating from high school he studied economics at the University of Hohenheim. While still being at school he spent several years in Australia and the US. During his studies he went to England and France.
Jon Hanf received his PhD from the Department of Business Economics of Agricultural and Nutrition Science (Prof. Dr. Kühl) at Justus-Liebig University of Gießen. He was also the Executive Director of the University's "Genossenschaftsinstitut" (cooperative institute). After receiving his PhD he started working at the Leibniz-Institute for "Transformationsforschung" (IAMO) (Leibniz Institute for Transformation Research) where he became head of the marketing research group.
Since 2010 he has the full professorship for International Marketing Management at Hochschule Geisenheim University. In 2015 Jon Hanf received his habilitation in Agriculture and Nutrition Economics at the Department 09 of Justus-Liebig University of Gießen. Alongside teaching and research Jon Hanf is also involved in national and international projects with companies and institutions (f.e World Bank, FAO, GIZ).
