The Family Services Office is a central contact and coordination point for all (prospective) parents and for those caring for dependent relatives alongside their course of study or professional commitments. Our support team will provide you with relevant information to help you find individual solutions related to the care of relatives or children.
The State of Hesse has awarded Hochschule Geisenheim University (HGU) the status of a “Family-Friendly University”. HGU is the state’s third university to have won this distinction. As part of our assessment process we have committed ourselves to pursuing family-friendly objectives and to implementing appropriate measures.
If you have any questions please contact Beata Szabo, contact person for family-friendly policies at the Geisenheim campus.
If you’re a student at Geisenheim University and would like to bring your children with you to eat in the cafeteria at lunchtimes, there is absolutely no problem! Using the FamilyCard issued by the StudentenwerkFrankfurt, you can purchase children’s portions for only one Euro. The offer comprises a hot lunch for children up to the age of 10, where at least one parent is a student.
You can apply for the FamilyCard at the Admissions Office (Studienbüro) any time during normal office hours. You’ll need to show us your child’s birth certificate and your enrolment certificate (Studienbescheinigung).
The parent-and-child room offers students and working parents a space where they can spend time with their children. It is a short-term, flexible facility which is particularly useful for bridging gaps in childcare and in exceptional situations. The room is in the Department of Urban Horticulture and Ornamental Plant Research; you can pick up the key on the spot after prior arrangement by telephone.
Each year during Hesse’s school summer holidays, Hochschule Geisenheim University offers a two-week holiday activity program for the children of our students and personnel.
The program is designed for children between the ages of six and twelve and the supervision runs from 8.00 am until 2.00 pm. The program includes a varied mix of sport, play and scientific experiments. The exact holiday dates are published in February each year.
June 25 to July 6, 2018
Parents can relax with their children in the University library’s play area.
Students and staff with children can borrow portable play sets and a mobile DVD-player if they need to occupy their children while they attend to other tasks on campus – the children however remain under the supervision of their parents. You can take the play set with you to your workplace or to lectures or seminars (please consult lecturers first). The play sets include various books, toys for children of different ages, CDs, drawing materials etc. The DVD-player includes earphones as well as entertainment and educational DVDs for children of different ages.
The two available play sets and the DVD-player can be borrowed during normal library opening hours.
Our baby changing facility is in the central cafeteria building. It is located in the disabled WC on the lower level. An elevator is available.
