The Professorship for General Chemistry fulfils extensive teaching commitments in lectures, practicals, seminars and exercises within the degree programs Viticulture, Beverage Technology and Horticulture. We teach the basic principles of chemistry with a practical focus, providing an essential building block on the way to understanding the complex relationships of substances and chemical reactions in all areas, from the raw material through to the processing and storage of the retail product, in plants, fertilizers and soils. In practical exercises students are introduced to selected analytical procedures. Theoretical content is thus reinforced by hands-on experience. Through our cooperation with the Professorship for Analysis and Technology of Plant-Based Foods we are able to undertake projects in the area of beverage technology and the chemical analysis of non-alcoholic and alcoholic products.
