Led by a team from Hochschule Geisenheim University's cooperation partner VDI, the newest group of young scientists explored where they might encounter numbers in their lives, how numbers have been written across different cultures and eras, and what we can do with them.
As can be expected at any KINDERUNI event, the kids had to be ready for some hands-on learning: they were asked to visit six different stations, each with its own tricky math puzzle. In the process, they learned how to use a Japanese method of multiplication, calculate with Roman numerals, and square the circle with a compass and ruler, among other things.
The next KINDERUNI event on March 26 will take the fun outdoors with an insect safari.
