The annual Arboriculture Conference, organized by the Rhine-Main municipal arboriculture working group and Hochschule Geisenheim University, took place this past Thursday on September 19, 2024. For the first time, there were over 130 experts in attendance. This year, the theme of the conference was ‘Tree Management and Climate Change’, and the event featured discussions on the practical impact of the climate crisis on our trees, as well as potential ways to protect them.
Alongside expert contributions and outdoor demonstrations, the conference provided participants, speakers, and representatives from the field with the opportunity to exchange their knowledge and ideas.
Attendees were welcomed to the event by Claudia Hodel, a member of the Rhine-Main municipal arboriculture working group and owner of Zorn Sachverständigenbüro Gartenbau (Zorn Horticultural Expert Office), and Professor Alexander von Birgelen, Professor of Plant Use at Hochschule Geisenheim University’s Department of Urban Horticulture. Subsequently, various presentations were held on topics such as the legal aspects of tree care, optimal inspection intervals, fungi in city trees, and much more.
“It’s wonderful to see that the number of attendees at our conference is growing steadily and we were delighted to welcome so many regional experts from different arboriculture-related fields this year. The atmosphere was informal, which facilitated open discussions held on an equal footing,” comments Professor Alexander von Birgelen.
