The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) is providing interim financial aid for students faced with pandemic-related financial hardship, starting in November 2020 until March 2021. The aid consists of two parts: the KfW student loan and interim financial aid.

For students who are not entitled to receive BAföG-funding (e.g. because they have exceeded the standard period of study or are enrolled in a second period of university studies) or for those who are facing pandemic-related financial hardship despite financial support, the BMBF has now made interim aid available. The aid consists of two parts: the well-established student loan from the KfW banking group, and financial support, which is allocated by student services organizations.

Since November 20, 2020, students can submit their application for the month of November. Applications for the month of December can be submitted soon, presumably by using the established national IT platform again.
