At the end of August, a delegation from Luxembourg with Minister of Health Paulette Lenert and Minister of Agriculture, Viticulture and Rural Development Claude Haagen as well as representatives of the wine industry visited Hochschule Geisenheim University.
After being welcomed by Prof. Dr. Annette Reineke, Vice-President of Research, the group met Dr. Matthias Schmitt from the Department of Enology who gave an overview of the latest developments in the production of non-alcoholic wines. He explained the various technical processes involved in the dealcoholization of wine and demonstrated the resulting analytical and sensory changes. In a subsequent wine tasting, Dr. Schmitt demonstrated different enological approaches to improve the quality of non-alcoholic wines, supported by scientific data.
The delegation then went on to visit the dealcoholization plant at the Carl Jung Winery in Rüdesheim. In the afternoon, they returned to Geisenheim to learn more about research in the Department of Grapevine Breeding.
