On July 10 the Landscape Architecture program celebrated the conclusion of a busy summer semester with the Monrepos-Epilog 2024. Current landscape architecture students presented on the results of their projects, seminars and lectures in Lecture Hall 10 of the Villa Monrepos. The interested attendees were treated to ten exciting presentations, with topics ranging from sustainable land use to the development of nature conservation projects to green infrastructure in cities.
Four Winners for the Landscape Architecture Academic Award 2024
Once the presentations concluded, the ceremony for this year’s Landscape Architecture Academic Award also took place at Villa Monrepos. This year, four students were awarded for their outstanding theses:
- Norman Häußer: Temperature Development of Concrete during Curing (Bachelor thesis)
- Maximilian Stumm and Elena Viandt: A Change of Motif: An Open Space Planning Concept for the Redesign and Expansion of the Hartenbergpark in Mainz (Bachelor thesis)
- Nora Schmidt: Habitat Modeling of the European Beaver (Castor fiber L.): Potentials and Conflict Areas along Watercourses in Rhineland-Palatinate (Master thesis)
The Landscape Architecture Academic Award is presented once per year for exceptional final theses and is worth €1000. The award is sponsored by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Gartenkunst und Landschaftskultur e. V. (DGGL), the Bund Deutscher Landschaftsarchitekten (bdla), the Landesverband Hessen e. V., the Fachverband Garten-, Landschafts- und Sportplatzbau Hessen-Thüringen e. V. (FGL) and the Hessischen Vereinigung für Naturschutz und Landschaftspflege e. V. (HVNL). The FGL's Alexander Tilburgs attended the ceremony as a representative of the sponsors and extended his congratulations to the award winners.
The event officially ended at 4:15 p.m. with a toast. Attendees were then invited to round off the evening with a barbeque in Monrepos Park.
