The 23rd international GiESCO conference, which will take place at Hochschule Geisenheim University from July 27 to 31, 2025, will be focused on new solutions for the viticulture of today and tomorrow. Under the motto "Above and Below - Towards the Future", the conference will engage with climate-related challenges in winemaking, soil management and biodiversity.
Broad Range of Topics
The conference program includes presentations and discussions about dealing with drought, frost damage, rising CO2 levels as well as other abiotic and biotic stress factors, new approaches to sustainable and ecological viticulture, the importance of soil and water management, digitalization and robotics in vineyards, and data management and modelling for the purpose of anticipating climate events.
"All of these topics are crucial for overcoming the challenges of climate change and for promoting biodiversity in viticulture in all its facets. With the broad scope of our conference program, we want to make a sound contribution to addressing the complex climate challenges of our time. We are looking forward to a large number of interesting presentations and guests from all over the world," comments Prof. Dr. Manfred Stoll, Head of the Institute for General and Organic Viticulture and Professor of General Viticulture at the Hochschule Geisenheim University.
Integrated Professional Day, Young Researcher Award, Excursions and the Event Program
In order to guarantee a close dialogue with viticultural practicioners and to identify future topics relevant to viticulture, a Professional Day will be incorporated into the conference program. Young researchers are also encouraged to apply for the Young Researcher Poster Award. A varied event program, which includes excursions to wineries in the Rheingau and surrounding area, will provide an interesting insight into local cultivation and production conditions and offer the opportunity to network with regional winegrowers.
"GiESCO has established itself over decades as one of the most renowned international conferences in viticulture. We are delighted to be hosting GiESCO again next year for the first time since 2005, and would like to cordially invite the entire international winegrowing community to Geisenheim," adds Prof. Dr. Hans Reiner Schultz, President of Hochschule Geisenheim University.
"It's an honor for the 23rd congress of GiESCO to be hosted by the prestigious Hochschule Geisenheim University, an international leader in grapevine and wine science and technology. After the previous conference in Ithaca hosted by Cornell University (USA), which brought together more than 250 specialists in the sector, the upcoming conference will offer innovations that will help us to preserve viticulture in traditional regions and enable its development in new areas," says Prof. Dr. Laurent Torregrosa, President of the GiESCO.
