Hard-working Dusty - the recipient of the 2019 Goldenen Wingertsknorzen

Students from the Viticulture and Enology, International Wine Business and Beverage Technology degree programs will be giving 15-minute speed presentations on the project results of the "New Media and Digitalization" course on January 17.

How have digitalization and new media influenced the wine and beverage industry? What are the benefits and challenges involved for companies? These are the questions that first-years studying the Viticulture and Enology, International Wine Business and Beverage Technology degree programs at Hochschule Geisenheim University have been tackling during the 2019/20 winter semester. As part of the "Information Technology" module, they have worked intensively on a wide variety of projects concerned with these topics. The students will be giving 15-minute speed presentations on the results of their work between 1:30 and 5:00 p.m. on January 17, 2020 in the Gerd-Erbslöh Auditorium. Press, company and association representatives as well as any members of the public interested in the presentations are invited to attend.

In any event, the variety of the projects is sure to make for an interesting afternoon: Under the guidance of Dr. Alex Jakubowski, reporter and planner at ARD aktuell, the students explored the "One minute and 30 seconds" format. Wolfgang Junglas, SWR reporter and a welcome guest in the Rheingau, kept the students busy with the special features of "Story Telling on Social Media". Isabella Rutayungwa, Junior Business Development Manager at WeinArt Handelsgesellschaft mbH, and her group are developing a concept for the "Geisenheimer Wein-Unikeller 4.0"; Head of Communications at the German Wine Institute Frank Schulz attempted to break the 10,000 followers barrier using an "Instagram takeover" on the Wines of Germany platform.

High-calibre lecturers from the world of business supervised a total of 13 project groups, each comprising 15 students. In parallel, Dipl.-Ing. (FH) Robert Lönarz, Head of Communication and University Relations at Hochschule Geisenheim University taught the students the theoretical basics in his lecture on "Media and Digitization".

The best presentation at this year's Geisenheim Media Day will once again be awarded the Goldenen Wingertsknorzen by an expert jury. The prize money of 150 euros is jointly donated by VEG - Geisenheim Alumni Association  and the Federation of German Enologists (BDO).
