In his lecture, Mathias used the personal stories of three employees of the Institute for Viticulture, Fruit Growing and Horticulture in Geisenheim, Arthur Glogau, Karl Eisele and Peter Spring, to illustrate the defamatory and repressive treatment experienced by employees who opposed the Nazi party. The lecture was followed by a lively Q&A session, during which Mathias offered guests even more details on individual elements of the lecture.
Around 80 guests were in attendance at the Gerd Erbslöh Lecture Hall on the university campus, with around 20 more joining in online. After the event, the Bündnis für Demokratie und Vielfalt Rheingau e.V. and the university socialized with guests in the foyer of the building. As a memento, representatives of the Bündnis handed out white roses to the guests.
A summary of Oliver Mathias' research and the information included in his lecture is available in the Machtergreifung 1933 in Rhein-Main report by the Hessian State Center for Political Education (in German).
