Since its foundation in 2015 the Graduate School has acquired new momentum ensuring interdisciplinary networking opportunities whilst fostering a vibrant and supportive community from the very start of the research project through workshops and other collaborative events.

Tailored to the needs of independent researchers, our qualification program seeks to support doctoral students in their current studies and prepare them for future careers in academia and beyond by providing essential critical skills as well as enhanced development opportunities.

Lecture Seminar Series

Research at Hochschule Geisenheim University thrives on an open-minded exchange: Not only will our junior scientists have the opportunity to get to know guest lecturers and their latest research activities but, moreover, they will present their own research projects publicly in an English lecture of approx. 20 minutes at the beginning and towards the end of their project benefitting from an open discussion.

The first presentation may include the research questions, project summary and the GANTT which have already been prepared for the application.
The final presentation towards the end of the doctorate will show the research results and is an excellent opportunity to use the space of 30-minutes to prepare specifically for the upcoming oral defense.

Personal feedback will be given to the doctoral student by the supervisor and/or attending members of the Doctoral Committee.

Attending a session with 2 doctoral lectures or a session with 1 guest lecture counts as one session each. A total of 12 sessions must be attended.

Compulsory Modules
  • Since the dissertation is a project unlike any other, developing writing skills is key to success and, therefore, a two-day Scientific Writing workshop must be attended. Alternatively, a series of tutorials including an individual writing consultation are offered. The attendance of 4 Scientific Tutorials and 1 writing consultation is credited as the compulsory module "Scientific Writing“. Course language is English.

  • The basis of scientific work is the adherence to the principles of scientific integrity. Since it is elementary to get to know the rules of scientific integrity and its various issues at the very beginning of the research process it is a fundamental requirement of doctoral training and therefore a compulsory module at Hochschule Geisenheim University.
Elective Modules

From the range of trainings offered in the areas of career preparation, research skills and presentation techniques, graduate students select those five modules that will particularly boost their professional skills and scientific project.

Courses or seminars attended outside of Hochschule Geisenheim University may be credited upon request by submiting a certificate of attendance as well as a module description to the Doctoral Office.
