Competence Center Cultural Landscape (CULT)

Today's modern age is causing great changes in cultural landscapes. The use of landscapes through intensification of land use (agriculture, forestry, settlements, energy generation etc.) leads to ever more profound changes in these high-quality cultural landscapes. Characteristics such as historical elements and diversity, which determine value are irretrievably lost.

The Competence Centre Cultural Landscape works on these current social challenges of sustainable development of the cultural landscape in a cooperative network. To this end, we organise specialist events and further training and thus promote the development of professional standards.

Registration of the variety now in the wine growing regions of Rheinland Pfalz (Rhineland-Palatinate)

The Bundessortenamt (German Plant Variety Office) approved the application of the Institute of Grapevine Breeding at Hochschule Geisenheim University and registered the grapevine variety Red Riesling on January 18, 2018.

The Institute of Grapevine Breeding at Hochschule Geisenheim University has been breeding the variety Red Riesling since 1991. The application for registration was filed at the Bundessortenamt in 2014. Growers interested  in planting the variety can now choose from the following clones: 3 Gm, 4 Gm, 16 Gm, 40 Gm and 42 Gm. Red Riesling was already classified for planting and wine production in the State of Hessen in 2003, and  has since then been  successfully grown, mostly in this region.

With the entry in the Federal Plant Variety Register, the variety will also be classified for the production of quality wine in all wine growing regions of Rheinland Pfalz. For its planting, no application for a cultivation trial is required and the planting area is no longer restricted. For growers who have planted the variety as a variety cultivation trial, all stipulations associated with the requirements of the trial approval are waived.
