More than 150 students, scientists and people from the wine tourism industry, mainly wineries and wine tour operators, from Greece, Germany, Italy, Portugal, France, Hungary and more, participated to the two-day hybrid conference on sustainable wine tourism, hosted at Hochschule Geisenheim University in December 2021. National and international bodies such as the OIV, DWI, the Greek Ministry of Tourism and the Greek-German Assembly gave keynote talks, while best practice examples from different countries, the impact of Covid19 on wine tourism, the digitalisation of the sector and other strategies were the main focus of the 14 presentations.
The conference was an event of the WOW project, a cooperation between Hochschule Geisenheim University and the University of West Attica focusing on challenges in the wine industry. The aim of the project is to establish a long-term collaboration between the two institutions in the field of enology, viticulture and wine-business. It was initiated in January 2020 and is financed by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) with funds from the German Federal Foreign Office.
