Competence Center Cultural Landscape (CULT)

science.practice.discourse.

Today's modern age is causing great changes in cultural landscapes. The use of landscapes through intensification of land use (agriculture, forestry, settlements, energy generation etc.) leads to ever more profound changes in these high-quality cultural landscapes. Characteristics such as historical elements and diversity, which determine value are irretrievably lost.

The Competence Centre Cultural Landscape works on these current social challenges of sustainable development of the cultural landscape in a cooperative network. To this end, we organise specialist events and further training and thus promote the development of professional standards.

Airplanes in My Stomach – Kerosene in My Nose

[Translate to English:] ProWein-Stand unserer Hochschule

Get to know interesting aspects of the special aroma component of Riesling wines at our ProWein stand

Most of us will certainly have experienced the legendary „Airplanes in the Stomach“. But why then do we have the smell of kerosene in our noses when we taste Riesling wines? Given the fact that there is hardly any vintner who is a pilot at the same time there must be another explanation for this phenomenon. And it is this very phenomenon indicated by the acronym TDN (which stands for 1,1,6,-Trimethyl-1,2-dihydronaphthalene) that has been in the focus of recent research by experts of Hochschule Geisenheim University.  What exactly is behind this aroma component that is so important for Riesling wines can be experienced by visitors with their "own noses" under this year´s motto "Challenge your Senses" at the ProWein trade fair. You will find us in Hall 14, Stand C 69.

No matter whether you are alumni, students, wine enthusiasts or friends - everybody is welcome! Since ProWein is considered as the world's leading trade fair for wine and spirits and the largest industry meeting for experts from viticulture, production, trade and gastronomy, it provides a very good opportunity especially for future wine professionals to inform themselves about the degree programs that we offer at Hochschule Geisenheim, as e.g. Viticulture and Enology, International Wine Business and Beverage Technology. For students who are wine lovers and come from foreign countries the degree program International Wine Business is ideally suited.
