Competence Center Cultural Landscape (CULT)

Today's modern age is causing great changes in cultural landscapes. The use of landscapes through intensification of land use (agriculture, forestry, settlements, energy generation etc.) leads to ever more profound changes in these high-quality cultural landscapes. Characteristics such as historical elements and diversity, which determine value are irretrievably lost.

The Competence Centre Cultural Landscape works on these current social challenges of sustainable development of the cultural landscape in a cooperative network. To this end, we organise specialist events and further training and thus promote the development of professional standards.

"Grünes Geisenheim" Project Wants Your Vote - What Should the Monrepos Roundabout Look Like in the Future?

A long-standing wish of the citizens of Geisenheim has been fulfilled. The Monrepos roundabout on the main access road to the university town of Geisenheim is to be attractively designed as an eye-catcher next year. To this end, the "Grünes Geisenheim" project, a cooperation between Hochschule Geisenheim University and the town of Geisenheim launched a young planners' competition aimed at students of landscape architecture. A panel of experts selected three designs from the entries submitted, each of which impressed the jury in terms of plant selection, design and local reference to Geisenheim. The winning design will now be determined by means of a public vote; and anyone interested in having their say may participate.

The three selected designs will be exhibited from December 9 to 20, 2019 in the foyer of Geisenheim's town hall, where you can vote for your favorite.

You can also take part in online voting during the same period by visiting www.gruenes-geisenheim.de. Access to the voting portal is also possible via the town and Hochschule Geisenheim University websites.

The winning design will be announced in the new year and students can look forward to receiving a cash prize. Construction on the greening and redesign of the roundabout is scheduled to start in spring 2020. The project will be partially financed from funds for the "Zukunft Stadtgrün" urban green area development program, which Geisenheim town has been successfully granted. The development program has made feasible the measures planned by the "Grünes Geisenheim" project. As well as increasing general attractiveness, the development of urban green areas also plays an important role in preventative health care and adapting to the effects of climate change.
