In July, the 13th Academy of Wine Business Research (AWBR) Conference was held in Dijon after it had to be postponed twice due to the pandemic.

Hochschule Geisenheim University was represented by seven junior scientists from the Department of Wine and Beverage Business, who contributed to 9 presentations and papers on sustainability, wine tourism, new grape varieties (fungus-resistant varieties called PiWis), moderate wine consumption, steep slope viticulture and digital sales analysis.

We are very pleased that the Geisenheim team received three awards as part of the conference: Anthony Bennett, M.Sc. was awarded as best junior scientist with the Best Young Researcher Presentation Award for his work to develop a digital dashboard for the Geisenheim Business Analysis project, which is part of his doctoral research.

Dr. Larissa Strub was honored for the best presentation held at the digital conference last year, where she presented her research on the costs of steep slope viticulture. As part of an international team of authors, Prof. Dr. Simone Loose received the Best Paper Award together with Dr. Martin Hirche from the University of Cologne and Prof. Dr. Larry Lockshin and Prof. Magda Nenycz-Thiel from the University of South Australia in Adelaide for her analysis of sales data for wine.

We would like to thank the Gesellschaft zur Förderung der Hochschule Geisenheim e.V. for their financial support to attend the conference.
